The Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Antonio Tajani, is attending in Luxembourg the Foreign Affairs Council, in its Trade configuration, convened, as an extraordinary meeting, by the Polish Presidency.
The agenda focuses on an exchange of views between EU Trade Ministers on EU-US trade relations and EU-China trade relations.
During the first debate, the “reciprocal tariffs” announced by President Trump on 2 April will be analysed, with the aim of agreeing on a common and pragmatic response. Minister Tajani said: “A trade war, which would be against our own interests, needs to be avoided. The primary goal is to protect our production system and our exports.” He will therefore reaffirm Italy’s commitment to work with its European partners and the Commission for a negotiated solution. From a long-term perspective, the Minister recalled the importance of diversifying opportunities for businesses through the expansion of the EU’s network of free trade agreements.
