Together with my fellow G7 Ministers, representing Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, the United Kingdom and the United States of America, and the High Representative of the European Union, I have signed a statement to strongly condemn the atrocious terrorist attack in Pahalgam on 22 April. We urge India and Pakistan to show utmost restraint. The continued military escalation poses a severe threat to regional stability. We are deeply worried about the safety of civilians on both sides. We call for an immediate de-escalation and encourage both countries to engage in direct dialogue to reach a peaceful solution. We continue to monitor events closely and express our support for a swift and lasting diplomatic solution.
