First Italian trucks of the “Food for Gaza” program enter the Gaza Strip. They are entrusted to the UN WFP

The first 9 of the 15 trucks financed by the Italian Government through the “Food for Gaza” program and donated to the UN WFP (World Food Program) entered the Gaza Strip today. Thanks to the collaboration with the WFP, the 9 trucks have now arrived on the Palestinian side of the Israeli Kerem Shalom crossing, a route that the remaining 6 should follow in the next few hours.

The trucks have been adapted to serve as “forklifts” within the Gaza Strip and distribute flour and other food aid at the various distribution points managed or recognized by the WFP. At this time the situation in the Gaza Strip is very delicate; there have been many attacks by the population both on moving vehicles and on bakeries and distribution centers.

The new arrival of aid adds to the previous humanitarian interventions carried out by the Italian Government, which has already mobilized EUR 35 million and more than 100 tons of food and medical supplies for the population of Gaza.
