Italian Deputy Minister for Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Edmondo Cirielli, visited today the Rome headquarters of the Alliance of Bioversity International and the International Centre for Tropical Agriculture (Centro Internazionale per l’Agricoltura Tropicale, CIAT) – a federation of non-governmental organisations engaged in various development cooperation projects – where he was received by Director General Juan Lucas Restrepo.
During the meeting, the Italian cooperation’s support for the activities of the Alliance, which operates in Asia, Africa, Oceania, and the Americas in the areas of food security, biodiversity, and nutrition, was reaffirmed.
The Deputy Minister specifically highlighted the importance of having a high-level technical international organisation based in Rome – one that contributes concretely to the priority objectives of Italy’s cooperation policy, strengthening Italy’s position in the field of food security, particularly in Africa, through projects aimed at reinforcing sustainable agricultural value chains, in line with the spirit of the Mattei Plan.
