New aid from the Italian Foreign Ministry for the Paediatric Hospital in Odesa. Cirielli chairs Joint Committee for Development Cooperation

The Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Edmondo Cirielli, today chaired the fourth meeting of the Joint Committee for Development Cooperation 2025, held at the Farnesina. The Committee approved a package of projects and programmes worth over EUR 66 million, in line with the 2025 Programming Document, already outlined during the previous meeting of the Committee chaired by Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Antonio Tajani on 2 April.

Particular attention was devoted to Ukraine, in view of the International Conference on Ukraine’s Reconstruction, to be held in Rome on 10–11 July. Two new cooperation initiatives were approved, for a total value of approximately EUR 32 million: the first provides for a EUR 30 million concessional loan for the construction of a new wing of the Odesa Regional Paediatric Hospital; the second, entrusted to the Military Chemical Pharmaceutical Institute in Florence, involves the supply of medical equipment to the hospital. Italy’s development cooperation support for the Ukrainian health sector will be further strengthened through an ambitious multi-year programme, to be launched in the coming months, drawing on various Italian centres of excellence.

In addition, Deputy Minister Cirielli today approved a EUR 22 million top-up for the multisectoral emergency initiative in Ukraine carried out by Italian civil society organisations and launched in December 2024. The additional funding will support 13 new projects proposed by well-established and highly regarded Italian organisations active in the country.
