A shipment of 800 tonnes of flour, purchased and distributed by the World Food Programme (WFP) thanks to Italian funding, was delivered today to the Gaza Strip via Jordan, as part of the “Food for Gaza” initiative.
This latest operation follows the arrival in Gaza, at the end of May, of 15 trucks donated by Italy to the WFP to support the distribution of humanitarian goods in the Strip. Thanks to the Italy-funded project, WFP is ensuring the purchase and distribution of foodstuffs in Gaza, including sugar and flour, which will benefit over one million civilians, particularly through the local production of bread.
With the commitment of the Italian Cooperation and through the “Food for Gaza” programme, Italy has so far allocated over EUR 110 million to the humanitarian crisis and the development of the Palestinian Territories. This includes more than 110 tonnes of humanitarian aid sent directly from Italy, and EUR 30 million in support of field operations carried out by international partners.
