A complex mission by the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Hon. Edmondo Cirielli, to Latvia and Estonia concluded today.
In Riga, Deputy Minister Cirielli met with the Minister of Economy, Viktors Valainis. The meeting highlighted the positive trend in bilateral trade and the significant Italian business presence in the country, especially in the infrastructure sector, thanks to the presence of companies such as ITALFERR and Rizzani De Eccher, the executives of which participated in the exchange of views. Later Deputy Minister Cirielli was received by Foreign Minister Baiba Braže and his counterpart Artjoms Uršuļskis. The meetings allowed for a wide-ranging discussion, touching on both international issues and bilateral relations, confirming the excellent state of diplomatic relations between the two countries.
In Estonia, the Deputy Minister first met with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Estonia, Margus Tsahkna.Later Deputy Minister Cirielli visited the Italian contingent at the Ämari base, where Italy has taken command of the NATO Baltic Air Policing mission through the launch of Operation Baltic Eagle III, with the task of monitoring the airspace of Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania.
The meeting provided an opportunity for in-depth discussion of the challenges posed to European security by Russia’s aggression against Ukraine and irregular migration flows, allowing for the reaffirmation of the excellent bilateral relations and the shared desire to further strengthen both political dialogue and economic cooperation.
