The Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Edmondo Cirielli, today received at the Foreign Ministry a delegation from the OECD engaged in the peer review process of the Italian development cooperation system, a process that will affect our country until next year. The delegation included representatives from Germany, Iceland, and the Secretariat of the OECD Development Assistance Committee (DAC).
Deputy Minister Cirielli stated: “The Italian government has placed development cooperation at the heart of its foreign policy, especially in Africa thanks to the Mattei Plan. The development and stability of our partner countries are, in fact, an essential prerequisite for our own development and stability.”
For Italy, the peer review is an important opportunity to enhance the innovative approach to development cooperation outlined by the Government in the Three-Year Planning Document 2024-2026. The current review comes six years after the previous one in 2019 and nearly ten years after the entry into force of Law 125/2014. It is therefore a particularly important moment to evaluate the effectiveness of our country’s work.
During their visit to Italy, the evaluators will be received by the Foreign Affairs Committees of the Chamber of Deputies and the Senate and will also meet with many representatives of key development cooperation players in our country, including central governments, the National Council for Development Cooperation, civil society, local authorities, academia, and the private sector.
