Adoption of the United Nations Regular Budget for 2026. Further strengthening of the Brindisi UN Hub

Following several days of negotiations, the United Nations regular budget for 2026 has been adopted. Among the decisions taken is the further strengthening of the United Nations Global Service Centre in Brindisi, through the transfer of 19 posts from the United Nations Secretariat in New York to the Apulia region.

This constitutes a significant achievement, reaffirming the strategic role of the Apulia-based UN hub as a centre of excellence providing support to UN peacekeeping missions and humanitarian operations. It also further enhances its operational and logistical capabilities, with tangible benefits for the local area.

This outcome will contribute to reinforcing Italy’s central role within the framework of the “UN80” reform launched by Secretary-General Guterres, which aims to ensure more efficient resource management while promoting operational hubs capable of delivering high standards of effectiveness and sustainability.
