Italy has today joined Pax Silica, an international strategic initiative promoted by the United States that brings together over twenty countries and the European Union to strengthen cooperation on strategic technologies in the age of artificial intelligence. This accession confirms the central importance of the transatlantic partnership in promoting economic security, innovation and competitiveness through reliable and resilient supply chains, against a backdrop of growing strategic competition. On the instructions of the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Antonio Tajani, Italy’s accession was formalised in Brindisi by the Special Envoy for Innovation and New Technologies, Ambassador Armando Varricchio, who signed the agreement alongside the Ambassador of the United States to Italy, Tilman Fertitta.
Italy’s participation reflects the belief that technological innovation, economic security and national security are increasingly closely linked. From semiconductors to critical minerals, and from digital infrastructure to high-tech systems, the Pax Silica strengthens cooperation between countries that share strategic interests and common standards. The initiative will offer new opportunities for growth and internationalisation for Italian businesses in the sectors set to shape the economy of the future.
