The Italian Cultural Institute of Istanbul is pleased to announce the success of the show ‘La Grande Opera in Jazz: Danilo Rea e le Stelle del Canto’, which sold out at the Casa d’Italia Theatre. The event, produced by Saint Louis College of Music in Rome and GlobArt in collaboration with Mercurio Management and organised by the Italian Cultural Institute of Istanbul, offered the Istanbul audience an unforgettable evening of music and art.

The concert, held on 9 July, was attended by a large audience gathered to enjoy a performance by the famous jazz pianist, Danilo Rea. The event was a triumph, with Rea masterfully blending the magic of jazz with traditional Italian operas, paying homage to the greatest Italian composers such as Puccini, Verdi, Rossini, Bellini, Donizetti and Mascagni.

An especially moving moment was Danilo Rea’s tribute to Leyla Gencer – the famous Turkish soprano, known as ‘La Diva Turca’, who has remained in the hearts of many opera lovers for her extraordinary career in the world’s most prestigious opera houses and for her interpretation of great Italian arias. Rea’s tribute made the evening even more special, underlining Gencer’s importance in the international opera scene and celebrating her connection to Italy and its musical tradition.

On the occasion of the centenary of Giacomo Puccini’s death (2024), Danilo Rea gifted the audience with a unique musical journey, enriched by projections of historical videos and contemporary works of art, also celebrating the legendary voices of Maria Callas, Enrico Caruso, Tito Schipa and many others.
