The exhibition “Vico Magistretti – Architecture & Design” retraces the sixty-year career of the famous architect and designer. Through drawings, plans, photographs and projects, both the most famous and the lesser-known works are presented, thus showing Magistretti’s approach to urban planning and the historical-cultural context. In parallel, the exhibition celebrates Magistretti’s industrial design, highlighting the original sketches and catalogues of products that have become icons of Italian design, such as chairs, lamps, tables, beds and bookcases.
A particular focus is made on the “professional partnerships” that Magistretti has established with some of the most important Italian and international design companies, such as Artemide, Cassina, De Padova, Flou and Oluce. Developed over a period of more than fifty years, these collaborations have contributed significantly to the definition and success of the Italian style in the world.
Some of the most iconic objects, generously loaned by Italian manufacturers Artemide (Inlite Australia), De Pavova (Boffi Studio Sydney), Cassina (Mobilia) and Oluce (Euroluce), will be displayed at the centre of the exhibition, curated by Fondazione Magistretti with Maria Vittoria Capitanucci, and organised by the Italian Cultural Institute of Sydney in collaboration with the Embassy of Italy in Canberra.
Structured in three main sections: biography, architectural works and design objects, the exhibition offers a complete journey that retraces the essence of Vico Magistretti’s prolific and eclectic career, also through video interviews with Patricia Urquiola and Stefano Boeri.
