For the 60th anniversary of the Chicago International Film Festival, the Italian Cultural Institute of Chicago presented the retrospective ITALIAN WOMEN DIRECT, a selection of films by Italian women directors showcased at the Festival over the past 60 years.

With a free weekly screening, the Institute invited the public to rediscover the history of Chicago’s longest-running film festival, highlighting the role of Italian women in shaping contemporary cinema. Each film reflects different themes, styles, and narratives, offering a snapshot of the evolution of Italian cinema over more than half a century.

“The Institute has been a long-time partner and supporter of the Chicago International Film Festival, and we are proud of the steady growth of our collaborations,” says Luca Di Vito, Director of the Italian Cultural Institute of Chicago. “The ITALIAN WOMEN DIRECT retrospective is our latest joint project, focusing on the role of Italian women directors in the Festival’s history and their contributions to shaping the future of cinema. The initiative is part of a broader theme, In Futuro: A Survey of Possibilities, which explores how Italian creatives have envisioned the future and continue to do so today.”
