The 8th edition of the Almirante Brown International Book Fair was inaugurated on 30 September, with Italy participating for the first time through a stand hosted by the Consular Agency in Lomas de Zamora. Alongside the book exhibition, the Italian stand distributed promotional material on consular activities and the “Italea” project, linked to “Tourism of Roots”.
The Consular Agency’s participation is part of the initiatives of the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation aimed at promoting Italian culture. It also forms part of the activities for the 24th edition of the Week of the Italian Language in the World, taking place from 14 to 20 October, with the theme “Italian and the Book: The World Between the Lines”.
The Fair, which remained open until 6 October, featured a conference on 5 October titled “Italo-Argentine Women Writers: Tales of Family and Immigration”, with the participation of authors Adriana De Caria, Natalia Brandi, and María Florencia Ratto. This event was organised in collaboration with the Com.It.Es. of Lomas de Zamora.
Consular Agent Massimo Palozzi participated in the ribbon-cutting ceremony, alongside the Director-General of Culture and Education of the province of Buenos Aires, Alberto Sileoni, the Mayor of Almirante Brown, Mariano Cascallares, the President of the Argentine Writers’ Society, Alejandro Vaccaro, and the Ambassador of Ireland to Argentina. “It is a great honour to represent our country at such an important event,” commented Palozzi. “The Almirante Brown International Book Fair attracts tens of thousands of visitors each year and is the perfect showcase for promoting our literature during a year dedicated to Italian roots. It is a collective effort involving not only the Embassy and the Consulate General in Buenos Aires, but also other key players like Com.It.Es. and Fedital, to whom I extend my heartfelt thanks.”
