Thanks to the partnership between the Australian Watercolour Institute and the Fabriano Paper and Watermark Museum, under the aegis of the Italian Cultural Institute of Sydney and in collaboration with the Municipality of Fabriano and the Biennial International Prize “Fabriano Watercolour 2024”, an original selection of watercolour works by Australian and Italian artists is on display in Sydney at the Italian Cultural Institute until 24 January.
Curated by David Van Nunen OAM, President of the Australian Watercolour Institute, and Giorgio Pellegrini, Director Emeritus of the Fabriano Paper and Watermark Museum and Curator of the Fabriano Watercolour Prize, the exhibition includes 40 works by 10 Italian and 10 Australian artists.
The dialogue between Italian and Australian art has a long-standing tradition, enriched – in particular – by the presence of Australian artists in both the jury and the competition of the Biennial International Prize “Fabriano Watercolour”. For the first time, in view of strengthening this link, Sydney is hosting a selection of works from both countries, thus bearing witness to the exchange and mutual influence between the Italian and Australian watercolour traditions.
In recognition of the collaboration with Fabriano, three works by the winners of the Biennial International Prize “Fabriano Watercolour 2024”, Eudes Correia (Brazil, 1st Prize), He Wen Qing (China, 2nd Prize), and Jin Li (China, 3rd Prize) are also on display.
