On Thursday, 13 February 2025, on the occasion of the World Radio Day, the “Italia RADIOsa” initiative was presented at the “Tor Carbone – Alessandro Narducci” Institute in Rome. This is an original project promoted by Office V of the Directorate General for Public and Cultural Diplomacy (DGDP) of the Foreign Ministry and focused on the creation of the first international inter-school web radio of Italian schools abroad.
The event, attended by the Deputy Director General for Public and Cultural Diplomacy and Central Director for the Promotion of Italian Culture and Language, Min. Plen. Filippo La Rosa, and by the Head of Office V, Cons. Amb. Filippo Romano, as well as various representatives from the world of education and radio, marked the official launch of the activities of the project, which will involve, in this first phase, all seven Italian state schools abroad (Addis Ababa, Athens, Barcelona, Istanbul, Madrid, Paris and Zurich), the Liceo ‘Vermigli’ in Zurich, the Institute ‘Tor Carbone’, the lead school, and the Liceo ‘De Sanctis’ in Salerno.
The day was sponsored by the National Committee for the celebrations of the 150th anniversary of the birth of the father of radio, Guglielmo Marconi, established by Decree of the Ministry of Culture. It saw the participation of Princess Maria Elettra Marconi (by video link), and Prince Guglielmo Giovanelli Marconi, respectively daughter and grandson of the inventor of the radio and Nobel Prize winner for physics, as well as the Committee’s President, Giulia Fortunato. During the event, the student winner of the competition to create the 2Italia RADIOsa” logo, selected by a jury of experts, was also announced.
The web radio will be a dynamic and interactive space, in which students and teachers will collaborate on the creation of content on topics such as literature, music, art, cuisine and history, exploring the world of journalism and audio-production, and contributing to the dissemination of Italian language and culture around the world. Participants will therefore have the opportunity to hone their creative and communicative skills and acquire important interpersonal and relational skills.
The students involved were enthusiastic about the opportunity, recognising radio as an important tool for broadening their horizons, and immediately engaged in interviews with the day’s speakers.
