The “Sonic Ties” project marked an important milestone in the cultural collaboration between Italy and India, celebrating Indian classical music and Mediterranean jazz.

Organised by the Italian Cultural Institute of Mumbai in collaboration with the Consulate General of Italy in Mumbai and the Consulate General of Italy in Bangalore, the event was supported by local institutions such as the NCPA in Mumbai and the Bangalore International Centre. Two concerts, in Mumbai and Bangalore, featured the Carnatic singer Bindhu Malini and percussionist Pramath Kiran, alongside the group leader Enzo Favata, on saxophone and electronics, and Fabio Giachino on keyboards.

The Consul General in Mumbai, Walter Ferrara, emphasised: “Sonic Ties is a perfect example of how music can transcend borders and foster a deeper mutual understanding between Italy and India. This project is set to further strengthen the cultural ties between our two countries”. Alfonso Tagliaferri, Consul General of Italy in Bangalore, added: “We are thrilled to have hosted this new collaboration between the talented Italian musicians and the key figures in the Bangalore music scene. These concerts not only celebrate the talent of both countries but also highlight how music can be a powerful tool to unite different artistic traditions”. Francesca Amendola, Director of the Italian Cultural Institute of Mumbai, shared her enthusiasm: “This project is part of a long-term vision of collaboration that will allow us to explore new and innovative musical possibilities. The goal of Sonic Ties is to create a lasting connection that will continue to evolve beyond these concerts. In fact, the musicians are already planning to record an album on this project”.
