The Italian Cultural Institute of New Delhi hosted the conference “Beyond Boundaries”, in collaboration with the Humayun’s Tomb Museum.

The event featured two prominent speakers: Professor Emerita Romila Thapar, one of India’s most distinguished historians and a transformative figure in the study of ancient Indian history. She has been honoured with the prestigious Kluge Prize and elected to both the British Academy and the American Academy of Arts and Sciences. Alongside her was Professor Naman Ahuja of Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi, an art historian renowned for his research on terracotta artefacts and objects of daily life.

The two scholars engaged in a dialogue exploring the rich exchange of goods, materials, ideas, and iconographies fostered by the vibrant trade between ancient Rome and the Indian subcontinent. Their conversation delved into historical traditions, sources, and identities, with the intellectual depth characteristic of both academics, while remaining fully accessible to a non-specialist audience.
