The Italian Embassy in Helsinki celebrated Italy’s Republic Day on 25 May at the Helsinki Music Centre Auditorium, a prestigious hub of Finland’s cultural life located in the heart of the capital.

The reception marking the 80th anniversary of the Italian Republic was centred, in the words of the Italian Ambassador Nicola Todaro Marescotti, on the promotion of contemporary Italian creativity in all its forms, expressed through the faces and views—at once Sicilian, Italian and universal—of the photographic exhibition “The infinite instant. Portraits” by Palermo-born artist Lia Pasqualino.

The exhibition, promoted by the Italian Cultural Institute of Helsinki, offers for the first time in Finland a major retrospective of a photographer who has made portraiture a highly effective instrument for narrating contemporary Italy and Sicily.

The Helsinki installation, curated by the artist herself and by Professor Antonio Calbi, Director of the Italian Cultural Institute of Paris, represents an important opportunity to promote Italian photographic language and has attracted strong interest and appreciation from the Finnish public.
