This morning, the Farnesina hosted the 3rd meeting of the Italian-Russian Working Group on Combatting New Challenges and Threats, co-chaired by the Secretary General of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Ambassador Elisabetta Belloni, and by the Deputy Foreign Minister of the Russian Federation, Gen. Oleg Syromolotov.
The meeting’s agenda included the exchange of opinions on terrorist threats, combating the phenomenon of Foreign Terrorist Fighters, extremism and radicalisation, and cooperating in fighting organised crime and illicit trafficking. These phenomena are transnational challenges that need the essential instrument of international cooperation in order to be tackled effectively.
The meeting was attended by representatives of various Administrations including – on the part of Italy – of the Ministries of the Interior, Justice, Economy and Finance, Infrastructure and Transport, thus testifying to the transversal nature of the topics addressed.
