Undersecretary Ivan Scalfarotto met today with his Spanish counterpart in charge of trade policy issues, Xiana Mendez Bertolo, to discuss the main current international issues.
In particular, the issue of Airbus subsidies and more generally, the issue of transatlantic trade relations was at the centre of the discussion. Scalfarotto recalled, pending a ruling by the World Trade Organization on the similar Boeing affair, the importance of the European members of the Airbus consortium committing themselves to a reform of their internal discipline on subsidies, in line with the provisions of the WTO itself.
Spain and Italy also agree on the importance of close European coordination on the central issues on the agenda for the coming months, from the negotiations on the Digital Service Tax to the WTO reform, from the appointment of the next Director of the same Organization to the approval Mercosur trade agreement.
