Scalfarotto meets the Albanian delegation: support to the European route of Tirana

Undersecretary Ivan Scalfarotto opened the meeting, held in VTC, between the Albanian delegation, led by the Chief Negotiator for Albania’s accession negotiations to the European Union Zef Mazi, and the delegation of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, led by the Central Director for European Integration Nicola Verola. The purpose of the meeting was assessing the current state and identifying future developments in the European path of Tirana.

The Undersecretary renewed to Minister Mazi his thanks to Albania for the support given during the health emergency. At the centre of the talks, the accession negotiations for Albania and the next meetings at EU level, during which the negotiating frameworks for Albania and North Macedonia will be discussed. “Italy,” said Scalfarotto, “is a strong supporter of the enlargement process of the European Union to the Western Balkans and particularly to Albania. History teaches us that our destinies are intrinsically linked. The stability, security and economic development of the Western Balkans is a strategic objective not only for the region but for the entire Union. Finally,” Scalfarotto observed, “Albania can count on the full support of Italy for the achievement of a common European perspective, according to the spirit of close cooperation and partnership that has always characterized our bilateral relations.
