At the 12th ministerial meeting of the Arctic Council, Deputy Minister Della Vedova presented Italy’s vision and commitment to the region in a video address.
“The Arctic is one of the most vulnerable areas of our planet, and we must be humble in the face of the challenges ahead. Italy has a long history of commitment to the Arctic, based mainly on scientific research, which continues to be the backbone of our presence in the region. For the future of the Arctic, it is crucial to create the right conditions for effective multilateral cooperation, peace and sustainable development: Italy will continue to contribute to achieving these goals,” said the Deputy Minister.
The Arctic Council is the most important intergovernmental forum for cooperation and dialogue in the Arctic region and is celebrating its 25th anniversary this year. Today’s ministerial meeting saw the handover of the presidency from Iceland to the Russian Federation. Italy has been an Observer State at the Arctic Council since 2013.
