Minister Di Maio participates in the first plenary session of the Conference on the Future of Europe

The Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Luigi di Maio, spoke today by videoconference at the first plenary session of the Conference on the Future of Europe.

In his speech, Di Maio recalled how Italy has supported the Conference from the beginning, as a precious opportunity for citizens to build the European Union of tomorrow, enabling it to face the challenges of tomorrow.

Di Maio underlined the importance of an authentically participatory and transnational process. He also expressed his hope that the proposals that emerge would be translated into concrete measures, both to make the EU institutions more effective and closer to Europeans, and to relaunch European action in a wide range of sectors – including the creation of a Health Union, the digital transition, the Green Deal, and migration. The role of the new generations is fundamental in this process; for that reason Italy will promote a Youth Conference that will also be open to participants from the Western Balkans and the Mediterranean.
