DM Di Stefano at the “Villa Mondragone International Economic Seminar”

“This is an important occasion because this year’s edition is dedicated to the Next Generation EU and the prospects for recovery that can arise from the coordinated implementation of the National Recovery and Resilience Plans. We now need to move on from the stage of developing national plans to designing transnational initiatives, starting with those with our closest trading partners. We are convinced that this approach will also benefit our businesses, which will therefore be able to provide more countries with the technologies needed to meet the twofold challenge of ecological and digital transition”, said Deputy Minister Manlio Di Stefano, at his welcome address, on Thursday, 8 July, at the Foreign Ministry, to the “Villa Mondragone International Conference”, which, since 1989,is committed to furthering the dialogue between the academic world and representatives of national and international institutions on the issues of growth and sustainable development. The conference, directed by Prof. Luigi Paganetto, is part of a long-standing collaboration between the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Economic Foundation of Rome’s “Tor Vergata” University, aimed at enhancing the debate on global issues and European economic governance, providing new perspectives and qualified assessments by academics and think tanks for foreign policy analysis.

The 2021 edition “Lessons from Covid-19. A stronger EU: Staying together in a new policy space”, will focus on the economic policy response to the pandemic, at European and multilateral level and –against this backdrop– the role of Next Generation EU and of the National Recovery and Resilience Plans in promoting durable, inclusive and sustainable growth.

The introductory address by the Director General for the European Union Min. Plen. Vincenzo Celeste and the President of the “Fondazione Economia Tor Vergata”, Prof. Luigi Paganetto, will be followed by a round table on the results of the three-day event, and by the keynote speeches of the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs,Manlio Di Stefano, the Minister of Education, Patrizio Bianchi, and the Deputy Minister of Economy, Laura Castelli. The proceedings will be live streamed at https://economia.uniroma2.it/mondragone/2021 from 9:00.
