This afternoon, at the UNESCO headquarters in Paris, a meeting will be held between Ministers of Education from around the world, who will discuss the role of education as a fundamental tool for achieving global peace, the ultimate goal of the United Nations.
For the occasion, Maestro Michelangelo Pistoletto has been invited to dialogue with Stefania Giannini, UNESCO’s Assistant Director-General for Education, on his artistic practice and, in particular, on the concept of “preventive peace”. The meeting, where Italy will be represented by the Minister of Education and Merit, Giuseppe Valditara, is an integral part of the work of the 42nd session of the UNESCO General Conference, the most important moment in the life of the organisation, which defines its direction every two years.
Maestro Pistoletto has been professing values in line with UNESCO’s mandate for years and is convinced that education must play a fundamental role in redressing injustice and equipping students of all ages with the knowledge, skills, attitudes, values and behaviour needed to shape a peaceful, just and sustainable future.
