Foreign Minister Emma Bonino will open the conference on “Action to achieve commitments in UNGA Resolution 67/146. Intensifying global efforts for the elimination of female genital mutilations” at the Parco della Musica Auditorium in Rome. The conference is organised by the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA), in collaboration with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs the United Nations International Children’s Emergency Fund (UNICEF) and the Italian Association for Women in Development (AIDOS).
Media representatives can follow the opening remarks by Foreign Minister Emma Bonino, the Executive Director of UNFPA, Babatunde Osotimehin, and the First Lady of Burkina Faso, Mrs. Chantal Compaoré, Goodwill Ambassador of the Inter-African Committee on Harmful Practices.
A family photo is scheduled for 11.15, followed by a press conference by Minister Bonino, Babatunde Osotimehin, Chantal Compaoré and Susan Bissell, UNICEF’s Associate Director and Chief for Child Protection.
