Convegno “Myanmar, The New Asian Frontier”

On Wednesday 23 October 2013, at 09.30, Foreign Minister Emma Bonino and the Foreign Minister of Myanmar (Burma), Wunna Maung Lwin, will open the conference on “Myanmar, The New Asian Frontier” at the Farnesina. The event is supported by the Ministries of Foreign Affairs and Economic Development and organised by the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) and Osservatorio Asia



The event will be followed by a bilateral meeting by the two ministers, after which a press conference will be held.


The conference will be a chance for representatives of the institutional and business communities of Italy and Myanmar to discuss opportunities for bilateral collaboration in various industrial sectors in a country experiencing renewed economic dynamism. Sectors include energy, mechanical engineering, infrastructure, timber, agriculture and tourism. Participants will also examine legislative issues affecting investment, as well as sustainable development in line with the OECD guidelines. The former European Union Envoy to Myanmar, Piero Fassino, and the Director of the OECD Development Centre, Mario Pezzini, will take part in the opening session.

Accredited journalists, photographers and TV crews should use the rear entrance to the Ministry at “via della Macchia della Farnesina”, which will be open from 08.45 until 09.15 on Wednesday 23 October 2013.
