Director General for Development Cooperation Giampaolo Cantini and representatives of the Rete Italiana Disabilità e Sviluppo (RIDS) will hold a press conference at 12:30 on Wednesday 30 October 2013 to launch the Italian Cooperation’s Disability Action Plan, fruit of a participatory process that began in 2011 with a MFA/DGCS-RIDS work group.
The Italian Cooperation’s commitment to the application of the rights of persons with disabilities is founded on Italy’s solid tradition in this sector. Indeed, Italy is considered among the most advanced in the assertion and protection of the rights of persons with disabilities, and was one of the initial 50 signatories of the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (CRPD) adopted by the UN General Assembly in 2006.
On the basis of that convention, in 2010 the Italian Cooperation approved the “Guidelines on the inclusion of disabilities in the policies and activities of the Italian Cooperation”, which envisaged the drafting of an Action Plan for their application, which was later carried out by the work group..
Journalists, photographers and TV crews wishing to cover the event are kindly asked to send a request on letterhead stationery to the Press and Institutional Communication Service of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs via fax or e-mail to accreditamentostampa@esteri.it(fax 06/3691.7193 – tel. 06/3691.3432).
Accredited members of the press will be admitted at the central entrance (“Sala Ospiti”) of the Ministry as of 11:45.
