On Friday, 21 October, from 9 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., the Farnesina will host the Conference “Why Women Matter – Promoting gender balance in public life and economic strategies”, organised by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation in partnership with Women Empower the World, the Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) and the Aspen Institute.
The Conference, which will be opened by the Ministry’s Secretary General, Elisabetta Belloni, will include closing remarks by the Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Paolo Gentiloni and the Minister for Constitutional Reforms, Maria Elena Boschi.
The event will be attended by numerous representatives from the world of business, universities and institutions, including Emma Bonino, the president of Women Empower the World, Emma Marcegaglia, the president of ENI, Maria Patrizia Grieco, the president of Enel, Suzanne Wasun-Reiner, the Ambassador of Germany to Italy and Catherine Colonna, the Ambassador of France to Italy.
The debate will focus on the contribution that women leaders can make in politics and economics and in the life of public institutions at national and international level. The aim is to highlight how, from the perspective of women, gender can and must have an essential impact in the future furthering growth, competitiveness and sustainable development.
The Conference is the fruit of the work of WE – Women Empower the World, whose president is Emma Bonino and which aims to emphasise the role of gender in tackling global challenges and to relaunch public debate on the effective contribution that female leaders can make on strategic issues, especially in view of the important Italian-chaired G7 Summit of 2017.
The whole Conference will be open to the press.
