On Wednesday, 13 November, from 9:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation will host the annual Assembly of Parties of the IDLO (International Development Law Organization).
The opening session (9:30 – 11:30 a.m.) schedules remarks by the Deputy Foreign Minister, Emanuela Del Re, which will be followed by a statement by the President of the Assembly of Parties of the IDLO, Jennifer Harrhigh, a representative of the United States Mission to the UN Agencies in Rome and by a report by the Director General of IDLO, Irene Khan.
The Session will be followed by a thematic debate (from 11:30 a.m. – 1:30 p.m.) titled
“Accelerating action to achieve the 2030 Agenda: Leveraging the rule of law to build peace and sustainable development”, aimed at taking stock of the state of implementation of the Sustainable Development Goal No. 16 (SDG 16).
Leveraging on the presence of the international guests in order to involve all the actors and to accelerate the implementation of the Sustainable Development Goal No. 16 (SDG 16), the thematic discussion will examine the emerging best practices and the ways of best exploiting the multidimensional value of the rule of law in reinforcing the achievement of positive results in all the 2030 Agenda Sustainable Development Goals.
Adama Dieng, Special Adviser to the United Nations Secretary General for the Prevention of Genocide, will deliver the keynote speech, which will follow with an interactive dialogue with special guests and eminent speakers.
The Session will lay the grounds for a conference to be held in Rome in 2020.
The afternoon session (from 2:30 – 5:30 p.m.) will be dedicated to the election of the new Director General of the IDLO, the adoption of the 2020 Budget, outlining the working programme for next year and enlarging the membership of the Finance Committee.
