PRESS ACCREDITATION NOTE: X Conferenza Italia – America Latina e Caraibi (IT/EN) – Roma, Hotel Rome Cavalieri, 25 e 26 ottobre 2021

On Monday 25 and Tuesday 26 October, the 10th Italy-Latin America and Caribbean Conference will be held at the Rome Cavalieri Hotel, on the theme of “People, Planet, Prosperity. The future of an ancient partnership”, chaired by the Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Luigi Di Maio.

This tenth edition of the Conference will bring together the Foreign Ministers of Latin American and the Caribbean countries, embassy representatives, technicians, experts and Italian institutional representatives. The Italy-Latin America and Caribbean Conferences have established themselves as a biennial event organised by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation in collaboration with the International Italo-Latin American Organisation (IILA).

This year’s event aims at enabling the Italian Presidency to gather the contributions of its Latin American and Caribbean partners in view of the G20 Leaders’ Summit at the end of October. For this reason, the 10th Conference will revolve around the same priorities identified for the G20, namely the promotion of inclusive and people-centred policies, environmental protection and sustainable economic growth.

In the framework of the Conference, in the afternoon of 25 October, there will also be a special event dedicated to the presentation of the results of the “Falcone – Borsellino Programme”. Funded by the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and implemented by IILA, the Programme is the cutting edge of Italian legal diplomacy, in terms of its international technical assistance component. Speakers will include the Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Luigi Di Maio, the Minister of Interior, Luciana Lamorgese, the Minister of Justice, Marta Cartabia, and the Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs, Marina Sereni, besides Latin-American Ministers and judicial authorities, the National anti-mafia Prosecutor and civil society representatives.

On the morning of 26 October, Minister Luigi Di Maio will address the opening plenary session of the Conference, followed by the speeches of the Ministers of Foreign Affairs of the Latin American and Caribbean countries. The proceedings will be divided into three contextual thematic panels. The final plenary session will be addressed by Vice Foreign Minister Marina Sereni.
