On Friday, 15 July, from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM, the Cappella Palatina of the Reggia di Caserta, will host the event titled “Mediterranean Diet Instrument of Diplomacy”.
The aim of the event – organized by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation in partnership with the Istituto Agronomico del Mediterraneo/CIHEAM of Bari and the Municipality of Caserta – is to create an opportunity of debate and encounter between different associations, entrepreneurs of the agrifood supply chain, local authorities and social society organizations on the food diplomacy currently promoted by our Country, starting from the principles and values of the culture and sustainability of the Mediterranean Diet. Focusing on tangible examples drawn from our Country’s cities and regions and from the experience of the most innovative businessmen and women in the agrifood supply chain, the event will explore the European, Mediterranean and global scope of Italy’s food diplomacy as it is currently implemented in association with important international partners, including the FAO, in concrete initiatives to support the Countries that are most affected by the food crisis currently underway and whose interests our Country will champion in different international fora that are scheduled following the Farnesina-hosted Mediterranean Ministerial Dialogue on the Food Security Crisis on 8 June: the 3rd World Conference on the Mediterranean Diet from 28 to 30 September 2022, and the 2nd edition of the Mediterranean Ministerial Dialogue to take place next 1 December.
The event – which will take place in a talk show format moderated by journalist Angela Rafanelli, the presenter of RAI’s television program “Linea Verde” – will open with remarks by the Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Luigi Di Maio and the Mayor of Caserta and President of ANCI Campania, Carlo Marino. The talk show will follow with a rich program of speakers including the Mayor of Milan, Beppe Sala (in video conference), Valentina Stinga, Maria Pina Fontana and Rosanna Marziale, innovative business women of the agrifood supply chain of the Campania Region, the President of Coldiretti, Ettore Prandini, the Director of the Centro di Ricerca Politiche e Bioeconomia-CREA, Alessandra Pesce, the President of Confagricoltura, Massimiliano Giansanti, and the Vice President of the European Parliament, Pina Picierno.
The event will close with remarks by the Director General of FAO, Qu Dongyu, the Minister for the South and Territorial Cohesion, Mara Carfagna (in TBC video conferencing) and the Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Luigi Di Maio.
