REMINDER Media accreditation note – Ceremony to award the Rita Levi-Montalcini Prize for Scientific Cooperation (Farnesina, 13 September 2022)

Ceremony to award the Rita Levi-Montalcini Prize for Scientific Cooperation

Tuesday, 13 September 2022, starting at 11.30 AM, the ceremony to award the Rita Levi-Montalcini Prize for Scientific Cooperation will be held at the Sala Aldo Moro of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation. The 2022 edition is devoted to the development of genomic technologies for sustainable agriculture. This year, the prize will be awarded to Prof. Assaf Distelfeld of the University of Haifa, Department of Evolutionary and Environmental Biology.

The award of this important prize, aimed at fostering relations between prestigious Italian and Israeli scholars, is one of the most significant initiatives in the context of the industrial and scientific-technological cooperation agreement between the two countries. The prize – funded by the Directorate General for promotion of the country’s economic system (Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation) – supports the residency of an Israeli scientist at an Italian university or research centre to carry out a joint research project for 4 – 6 months.

Every year, the awarding-giving ceremony renews the joint commitment to further increase bilateral dialogue in knowledge and innovation, creating new links between the scientific community and celebrating the scientific legacy of the scientist Rita Levi-Montalcini, a highly-esteemed person whose life continues to act as a source of inspiration.

The event will be presided over by the Deputy Director General for the Promotion of the Italian Economic System, Envoy Liborio Stellino, and will also be attended by Deputy Minister for Foreign Affairs Marina Sereni, the Presidents of the biggest Italian research centres, the Chancellors of various universities and other representatives from the world of academia.  Representatives from the Embassy of Israel, the Conference of Italian University Rectors (CRUI), and the Italian Ministry for Universities and Research (MUR) will also attend, along with Piera Montalcini, engineer, the niece of Prof. Rita Levi-Montalcini.

The event can be followed in live streaming on the YouTube page of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation: Farnesina – YouTube
