The Foreign Ministry with the Mama Sofia Foundation: launch of the call for scholarship applications in memory of Ambassador Luca Attanasio

(Wednesday 22 February 2023, 10:30 a.m. live streaming)

On Wednesday 22 February at 10:30 a.m. in the Luca Attanasio Room at the Foreign Ministry, the call for scholarship applications promoted by the Mama Sofia Foundation, with the patronage of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, the Ministry of Education and Merit and the Ministry of University and Research, will be launched in memory of Ambassador Luca Attanasio.

The event will be attended by Ettore Francesco Sequi, Secretary General of the Foreign Ministry; Carmela Palumbo, Head of the Department for the Education and Training System of the Ministry of Education and Merit; Gianluigi Consoli, Director General for Internationalisation and Communication of the Ministry of University and Research; Alfonso Lovito, Director General of eCampus University and founding partner of Mama Sofia; Placido Bramanti, President of Vexavit Italia; Salvatore Gandolfo, Founder and CEO of Vexavit AG, as well as founding partner of Mama Sofia; Federico Iadicicco, President of ANPIT (National Association for Industry and the Service Sector); Lidia Dimasi, Head of Institutional Relations of ANPIT; and Luca Pardo, Director of the Mama Sofia Foundation. The Italian Ambassador to the Democratic Republic of Congo, Alberto Petrangeli, and Zakia Seddiki Attanasio will participate via video-link from Kinshasa.

The “Ambassador Luca Attanasio Scholarships” project had been presented in December 2022 on the occasion of the 15th Conference of Italian Ambassadors Worldwide, in the presence of Minister Antonio Tajani, to commemorate the value of the young diplomat’s moral and spiritual legacy.

The Mama Sofia NGO Foundation will offer 43 scholarships for enrolment in a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree course at eCampus University and as many qualifying Italian courses. The beneficiary students will be selected from 12 countries: Afghanistan, Albania, Algeria, Ethiopia, Libya, Morocco, Niger, Nigeria, Democratic Republic of Congo, Somalia and Tunisia.

The scholarship launch will take place two years after the tragic killing of Ambassador Luca Attanasio, who lost his life in an ambush in the Democratic Republic of Congo, together with Carabiniere Vittorio Iacovacci and their driver Mustapha Milambo.

The event will be streamed live on the Farnesina Youtube channel at the following link: Annuncio bando borse di studio Luca Attanasio – YouTube
