Cultural Heritage in the 21st Century

Naples 27-29 November 2023

The UNESCO event “Cultural Heritage in the 21st Century” will be held at the Royal Palace in Naples from 27 to 29 November 2023.

Italy will welcome representatives and experts from the 194 UNESCO member countries to develop common responses to the new challenges faced by the World and Intangible Heritage of Humanity.

During the UNESCO event – jointly organised by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, the Ministry of Culture, with the support of the City of Naples – the issues of urbanisation, excessive tourism, climate change and conflicts will be discussed in seven thematic sessions. It will be an opportunity to share with the other members of the Organisation Italy’s recognised expertise in the protection of Heritage, both Tangible and Intangible.

The event, fully open to the press, may be followed in a salle d’écoute (listening room) with audio/video link. The proceedings will begin on the morning of Monday 27, with institutional greetings, including the Italian Minister of Culture, Gennaro Sangiuliano, and the Italian Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Edmondo Cirielli. On 29 November, the proceedings will end with the launch of the “Call for Action” in the presence of Italian Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Antonio Tajani, Minister of Culture, Gennaro Sangiuliano, and UNESCO Director-General, Audrey Azoulay.

This will be followed by a joint press conference Italy – UNESCO, which could be followed up in the presence of the press.

The entire event will be streamed live, in three languages (Italian, English, French), through the UNESCO social channels.
