From 10 to 12 September, the Conference of Scientific and Space Attachés and Agricultural Experts will take place in various locations in Naples, as part of the celebrations for the 2500th anniversary of the founding of the city of Naples.

The sessions scheduled for 11 and 12 September will be open to the press.

The institutional session, which will take place on 12 September, will feature speeches by the Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Antonio Tajani, and the Minister for Universities and Research, Anna Maria Bernini.

With a network of 62 scientific and space attachés and agricultural experts in Embassies and Representations abroad, the Foreign Ministry oversees the implementation of some 60 bilateral agreements on scientific and technological cooperation, thus reaffirming the priority of strengthening scientific cooperation with countries with high rates of innovation and strong growth prospects in the fields of science and technology, with a synergistic action that coordinates over 30,000 Italian scientists abroad, who are “ambassadors” of Italian scientific diplomacy around the world.

Every year, the Conference is a key moment for strengthening the Foreign Ministry’s growth diplomacy strategy. This year, the focus of discussion will include in-depth analysis of innovative technologies in the agri-food and biotechnology sectors, as well as the challenges and new opportunities of artificial intelligence and cyber security.

On the morning of Thursday, 11 September, journalists may follow the working sessions dedicated to innovative technologies in the agri-food sector and space as opportunities for growth, at the Department of Agriculture of the Federico II University, at the Royal Palace of Portici. In the afternoon, the works will continue at the School of Medicine and Surgery of the Federico II University, with a session on innovation in the field of biotechnology.

The institutional session, which will take place on Friday, 12 September at the Capodimonte Astronomical Observatory, will feature speeches by the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Antonio Tajani, and the Minister for Universities and Research, Anna Maria Bernini. Journalists, photographers and cameramen interested in following the event can apply for accreditation by sending a requestby 1 p.m. on Wednesday 10 September, by e-mail to accreditamentostampa@esteri.it (tel. 06 3691-3432  – 3078-8210 or 8573), as follows:

for representatives of the Italian press organisations:

  • a copy of an identity document,
  • a letter of assignment from the newspaper of affiliation or – in the absence of the latter -, a copy of professional identity card.

For representatives of foreign press organisations not accredited at the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs:

  • copy of an identity document;
  • letter from the newspaper of affiliation;
  • Verbal note of the Embassy in Rome of the country of the press organisation represented.

For representatives of foreign press already accredited at the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the request shall be sent with a copy of an identity document attached.

Accreditation badges must be collected in person at the various locations, as follows:

 

Thursday, 11 September:

  • from 8.30 a.m. to 9.30 a.m., at Federico II University, Department of Agriculture, Portici Royal Palace;
  • from 3.30 p.m. to 4.30 p.m., at Federico I University, School of Medicine and Surgery, Scampia Complex.

 

Friday, 12 September, for the institutional session:

  • from 8.30 a.m. to 9.30 a.m., at the entrance to the Capodimonte Astronomical Observatory.

 

As parking space at the Capodimonte Astronomical Observatory (Friday, 12 September) is limited, journalists who wish to secure a reserved space are invited to also provide their vehicle registration number.
