UPDATE PRESS ACCREDITATION NOTE
11th edition of the MED – Mediterranean Dialogues Conference
15–17 October 2025
Royal Palace, Naples
The 11th edition of the MED – Mediterranean Dialogues Conference, organised by the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation (MAECI) in collaboration with ISPI (Italian Institute for International Political Studies), will take place from 15 to 17 October 2025 at the historic Royal Palace in Naples.
The event will be preceded by closed-door roundtables on 15 October, with the conference officially opening on Thursday, 16 October. The institutional opening session will take place at 2:30 p.m. in the Teatro di Corte, featuring remarks by Antonio Tajani, Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, and Franco Bruni, President of ISPI. Following this, Minister Tajani will participate in the opening panel alongside: Fuad Hussein, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Iraq, Varsen Aghabekian Shahin, Minister of State for Foreign Affairs and Expatriates of the Palestinian National Authority, Massad Boulos, Senior Adviser to the US President for Africa, Arab Countries, and the Middle East. At 3:45 p.m., the Minister will join a session dedicated to the Balkans, together with his counterparts from Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Croatia, North Macedonia, Kosovo, and Slovenia.
The Mediterranean Dialogues represent MAECI’s main public diplomacy initiative. This year’s edition is exceptionally hosted in Naples, in collaboration with the Neapolis 2500 National Committee, highlighting the city’s historic role as a political and economic crossroads between Europe and the Mediterranean, and celebrating 2,500 years since its founding. The choice of Naples underlines the centrality of the Mediterranean in Italy’s political identity and highlights a dynamic region aiming to build its future alongside key actors from the Southern shore.
High-level representatives from across the wider Mediterranean region and numerous international organisations will attend, including: Reem Al Hashimy, Minister of State for International Cooperation, UAE; H.R.H. Princess Rym Ali, President of the Anna Lindh Foundation; Archbishop Paul Richard Gallagher, Secretary for Relations with States and International Organisations; Nazila Ghanea, UN Special Rapporteur on Freedom of Religion or Belief; Nawal El Moutawakel, Vice-President of the International Olympic Committee.
In the two years since the outbreak of the war in Gaza on 7 October 2023, the region has experienced major upheavals. Long-standing regional balances have collapsed, and new conflict zones have emerged, from Gaza to Lebanon and Syria, and from Iran to Yemen, including the Suez Canal region. The transition in Libya remains incomplete, and insecurity persists in the Sahel, affecting migration management towards Europe.
