Marionettes and Jazz: Italy, Cultures, the Mediterranean in Izmir

Marionettes and jazz: this is the title chosen by the Italian Consulate in Izmir to promote the “Italy, Cultures, the Mediterranean” programme in the Turkish city. The programme presented by the Consulate features two performances to be staged in March that are on the billboard of two important international festivals: the Izmir Puppet Days and the Izmir European Jazz Festival.

Today and tomorrow, puppet artist Veronica Gonzalez will stage a performance of brightly coloured puppets standing on her feet in “Cooking with Your Feet”, a play dedicated to the figure of Pellegrino Artusi, produced in collaboration with CasArtusi and the Region of Emilia-Romagna. The accompanying soundtrack will comprise music by Rossini, Verdi and Puccini.

Attendees will also be able to visit a photographic show on the theme and learn more on Italy’s wine and food culture through a presentation by Prof Conti, President of CasArtusi.

On 20 March, the concert by the “Max Ionata Hammond Trio” will bring on stage the rhythm and sound of Italian music at the Izmir European Festival, one of the principal festivals in the region. The participation of the ensemble, made possible through the cooperation with the Italian National Music Committee, will include a workshop for young jazz artists and a jam session on the evening of 22 March.
