On 30 May 2018, the Italian Ambassador in Canada, Claudio Taffuri, participated in the opening ceremony of the CANSEC – Canada’s Global Defence and Security Tradeshow in Ottawa – accompanied by the Defence Attaché, Major General Luca Goretti. CANSEC is Canada’s most important tradeshow in the defence sector and presents the most innovative solutions offered by the defence industry for military procurement. In particular, Ambassador Taffuri visited the pavilion of the Leonardo Group where he expressed his appreciation for the important result recently achieved by the company in Canada with the support of the Embassy. A few days ago, the Canadian Government formalised its intention to designate Leonardo’s Helicopter Division as the “sole-source” for the order to upgrade their search and rescue fleet of helicopters, recognising the high level of know-how and the high industrial profile of the Italian company, which is leader in this sector. In addition to upgrading an existing stock of 14 Cormorant helicopters, the order also concerns the purchase of 7 new helicopters and a flight simulator.
Ambassador Taffuri also had a very fruitful meeting with Jennifer Hubbard, Director General, International and Industry Programs, Department of National Defence and with Christyn Cianfarani, President and CEO of the Canadian Association of Defence and Security Industries (CADSI), which took stock of the present situation and analysed the future prospects for cooperation in the defence and aerospace sector.
