The concert Antonio Maiello and les AMIS DU MONDE on Monday 11 June 2018 was a great success at the Ibn Zeydoun room in Algiers. Organized by the Italian Embassy and the Italian Cultural Institute in Algiers together with the Ministry of Culture and the Office Riad el Feth, the musical event took place as part of the “Italia Culture Mediterraneo” Cultural Program, which the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation is implementing for 2018 in the MENA region through its foreign network.
Accompanied by thirteen musicians of different nationalities, including nine Algerians, Neapolitan composer and musician, Maestro Antonio Maiello, performed an assorted and composite repertoire that ranged from jazz to blues and the Mediterranean melodic tradition.
The presence of Algerian musicians was an added value for the concert. It is the final outcome of a project developed by Maiello and is aimed at creating an Italian-Algerian youth orchestra. With the backing and support of the Italian Cultural Institute of Algiers, the project consisted of two phases: the selection of young Algerian talents and their training. It was an intense activity that kept Maestro Maiello engaged for two months from April to June.
