The Foreign Ministry celebrates World Music Day

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation (MAECI) with its network of diplomatic and consular offices and the Italian Cultural Institutes abroad join in the celebrations of World Music Day 2018 by staging more than 40 events in an equal number of cities worldwide.

Launched in France in 1982, the Fête de la Musique has gone international and now also involves hundreds of music institutes and agencies in Italy which, through the coordination of the Ministry of Cultural Heritage and Activities and Tourism (MiBACT), organise musical events throughout the peninsula on the night of the summer solstice.

On the same day, the MAECI and its diplomatic network around the world pay tribute to the universal language of music, in all its forms and genres, with Italian artists of excellence, including Stefano Bollani and Fabrizio Bosso, the “Sistina” Chapel Choir and the Accademia del Teatro alla Scala di Milano. Embassies, Consulates and Italian Cultural Institutes host concerts offering a wide repertory of music, giving life to stimulating music mixes and promoting the creativity and talent of major performers on the Italian music scene. World Music Day confirms to be a valuable opportunity to promote the excellence of Italy’s artistic heritage around the world.
