Brazil: opening of the “Sao Francisco na Arte de Maestros Italianos” exhibit

The “Sao Francisco na Arte de Maestros Italianos” exhibit opened on August 8 at the Casa FIAT de Culture di Belo Horizonte. It is an initiative of great importance that retraces the iconography of Saint Francis with artwork by Tiziano, Perugino, Orazio Gentileschi, Guido Reni, Guercino, Carracci and Cigoli. The exhibit also includes a virtual visit of the Upper Basilica of Assisi: with the use of 3D glasses, you can take a visual tour of one of the most important and beautiful basilicas of Italy and learn about Giotto’s masterpieces. Italian Ambassador Antonio Bernardini pointed out how “the São Francisco na Arte de Maestros Italianos exhibit is a new initiative of great importance, certainly one of the most important of the past few years in terms of reach and cultural value. We are truly glad and proud to be able to offer to the Brazilian public, for the first time, such a rich and important part of Italian art and history, and to be able to share that with so many connoisseurs of Italian cultural heritage in Brazil”.

The project, which includes showcasing the exhibit at the Rio de Janeiro Museum of Fine Arts (where it will open on October 31), was made possible thanks to a group operation organised by the Italian Embassy in Brasilia along with the Italian Consulates in Rio de Janeiro, Sao Paolo and Belo Horizonte and also the Cultural Institutions of Rio de Janeiro and Sao Paolo, in collaboration with the two above-mentioned museum institutions, the IBRAM (Instituto Brasileiro de Museus) and the Brazilian Ministry of Culture.
