Naples’s Teatro San Carlo and its Orchestra, with Conductor Maurizio Agostini, held a concert in Montreal, at the Maison Symphonique, one of the world’s most prestigious temples of music. The programme included the performance of some of the most famous arias of the Italian music tradition and a special homage to Gioachino Rossini, whose 150th anniversary of his death is celebrated this year, in addition to pieces of the glorious tradition of the “Neapolitan School” with Domenico Cimarosa and a sophisticated citation from Neapolitan tradition with Stravinsky’s refined Pulcinella.
Music is the immense legacy that Naples has and continues to offer to the world and is also an essential trait of Montreal’s soul. This is the reason why the Italian Embassy in Canada and the Consulate General in Montreal have brought the world’s oldest theatre to the most musical city of what was once considered to be the New World for many Italians.
The concert, organised by the Italian Embassy in Canada and the Consulate General in Montreal is part of the Government Plan to promote the image of Italy and of the “#Vivereallitaliana” initiative developed to disseminate and increase people’s love for Italy’s points of excellence and the beauty that Italy has and continues to create in all areas, starting from music. The joy of enjoying such a special libretto will also be shared by the Italian Ambassador, Claudio Taffuri, and the representatives of local institutions sitting in the audience.
