The exhibition Federico Fellini Genius of humanity has been inaugurated at the Palais des Nations in Geneva. Promoted by the Permanent Mission of Italy to the International Organizations in Geneva, in collaboration with the Federico Fellini Foundation, the exhibition pays tribute to one of the greatest masters of cinema but also to Italy’s commitment to all civilization processes, from antiquity to the present day. The exhibition, open to the public until February 28, displays original documents such as photographs, scripts and the original scene costumes, as well as the screening of the director’s films and musical moments with tributes to Nino Rota, author of all the soundtracks of Fellini’s films. The exhibition is arranged according to three themes: the freedom of the artist-acrobat, with the representation of the world of the circus that Fellini uses to sketch a satire of society and reveal, in particular, the struggle for power. The depiction of the human condition, of which Fellini was an insightful painter, by choosing to represent the more humble figures of society: an example are the protagonists of the films “La Strada” and “Le Notti di Cabiria”. The modernity of Fellini’s gaze on history, the allegories contained in his films, such as, “E la nave va” (1983) which depicts the fall of Europe on the eve of the First World War. Or the announcement of the great challenges of our contemporary world, like the power of the images disseminated by the media, as shown in “Ginger and Fred”, produced in 1986.
The exhibition invites visitors to enter this universe of unique films whose subject matter is as topical as ever. The fundamental values underlying Fellini’s work, the independence of the artist, the conscience of a common humanity, being suspicious of power rituals, help us understand the importance of one of the fundamental human rights, the freedom of expression.
