Filming Italy-Los Angeles: Italy used as a film setting

Claudia Cardinale, an icon of style and beauty, was the guest star at the fourth edition of Filming Italy – Los Angeles, which was attended by personalities from Italy’s and Hollywood’s film industries, and that has just closed at the Italian Cultural Institute (IIC) in Los Angeles and at the Harmony Gold Theater.

By promoting Italian film productions, Filming Italy – Los Angeles promotes Italy as a possible film set for the cinema, focusing the attention of the American industry and public on special places – that, once turned into immortal film sets, later become the destination of new forms of tourism – and on the professional profiles that have long contributed to making Italian films popular all over the world.

The festival, created and organised by Tiziana Rocca, Agnus Dei and Valeria Rumori and by the IIC in Los Angeles, this year also saw the participation of Lazio Innova, the Cinema Directorate of the Ministry of Cultural Heritage and Activities (MiBAC) and ANICA, as well as the presence of the Italian Consul General in Los Angeles, Silvia Chiave.

“Filming Italy – Los Angeles – said the Festival’s art director Tiziana Rocca – was created to focus the attention of Hollywood film-makers on our Country’s great cinema and cultural heritage through the characters and the films that have made it unique, also thanks to new talents. Our mission is above all to favour internationalisation.”

This year’s honorary president was Gina Lollobrigida, and some of the Italian stars present included Raoul Bova, Giulio Base and Salvatore Esposito.

A novelty of this year’s edition was the “Lazio Cinema International” competition curated by Cristina Priarone, the Director General of the Lazio Film Commission, thanks to which the Lazio Region co-financed the production of more than 60 films and fictions in only 3 years by bringing to the marvellous locations in Rome and in Lazio great film directors, world-renowned actors and international productions, and subsequently promoting their distribution worldwide. At Filming Italy – Los Angeles, there was also Italy for Movies, the national portal on incentives and locations created by the MiBAC and operationally managed by Istituto Luce – Cinecittà in cooperation with the Italian Film Commissions.
