Abu Dhabi: Italian artists at the Special Olympic Games

This year, the Italian Embassy in the Emirates will contribute to the Special Olympic Games, which will be held in Abu Dhabi from 14 to 21 March, by participating in the initiative promoted by the Inclusive Art Gallery with a selection of works by Diego Salezze and Lisa Perini. The Special Olympics are the largest global humanitarian sports event and a global movement that focuses on the empowerment of persons with intellectual and relational disabilities through the power of sport. The Games’ Legacy Program, under which the exhibition falls, aims to raise people’s awareness by promoting inclusiveness and overcoming cultural and social barriers.

The art exhibition opening today will present, among others, two Italian artists who express their creative vein thanks to their determination and the support of Dr Leonardo Zoccante, the coordinator of the Interdisciplinary Group on Autism of the Department of Child Neuropsychiatry of the University Clinic of Verona. Together with Ruggero Mason, Zoccante founded Euritmie – Special Talents Access to the Arts, an art event that has been presenting works of art and holding seminars and forums for the exchange of experiences between scholars of autism since 2015. Euritmie aims to put together people with special talents to turn them into the protagonists of their own lives.

Lisa Perini graduated from the Academy of Fine Arts of Venice and, since 1997, has won several awards and participated in numerous solo and group exhibitions in Europe, America and Asia. Diego Salezze too has participated in many exhibitions and one of his works was shown by President Sergio Mattarella during his annual New Year’s address to the nation as an example of determination.
