Tunis: stages L’Isola Magica-Shakespeare in Dream

“L’Isola Magica-Shakespeare in Dream” by the ResExtensa DanzaTeatroDanza dance company kicked off the Week of World Theatre Day. The performance, organised with the sponsorship of the Italian Cultural Institute, puts together words, lights, music and the magic of aerial dancing. This is the magic that Elisa Barucchieri chose to explore in her Isola Magica-Shakespeare in Dream performance, intertwining the verses of the great poet and playwright with an original text by Selene Favuzzi, the dreamlike music by Maestro Luigi Maiello and the elegant and powerful choreographies by Elisa Barucchieri. Shakespeare uses magic characters in many of his works: the three witches in Macbeth, the spirit Ariel, Prospero the magician, Puck the jester, and Sycorax the witch, are among the unforgettable and extraordinary characters by the English playwright which continue to fascinate audiences of all ages. In the show, the Great Bard, suspended in a sleepless night, appears in a theatre crowded with the ghosts of his creativity. Guided by the spirits of the Muses, he will meet the three Witches, Prospero, Ariel, Sycorax, and Puck and will understand the sense of magic (or of faith) that, fleeting and unruly, is the most necessary component of human experience. He will understand why he, the Eternal Bard, was given the task of telling their stories. The performance is staged in Tunis in two languages, playing on the poetry of Shakespeare and the power and immediacy of the Italian language. The aerial dance by the ResExtensa dance company is accompanied by the voice of actors Francesco Carrassi, Lucia Zotti, and Paolo Proietti.
