The Italian Ambassador in Brussels, Elena Basile, hosted an important meeting to coordinate consular services, at the presence of the Consul General of Charleroi and the representatives of the Committees of Italians Abroad in Belgium and of the General Council of Italians Abroad. The meeting was also attended by the Honorary Consuls of Antwerp, Ghent, Ostend and Louvain, in addition to the representatives of the Education Office of the Embassy and the Italian Cultural Institute.
The meeting offered the opportunity to discuss the themes concerning the Italian community in Belgium – more than 284,000 resident Italians and up to 500,000 if we consider new emigrations – as well as the provision of consular services, with a special focus on digitalisation, the teaching of the Italian language and the promotion of Italian culture.
In the words of the Ambassador, the coordination of the consular services is key to improving the services provided to Italians abroad and to meeting the needs of a continuously larger and multifaceted community of Italians. In this perspective, it is essential to establish a continuing dialogue between the people representing the needs of Italians abroad and the consular network.
