A great success was recorded by ‘The Revenger’s Tragedy’ by Thomas Middleton, in the adaptation by director Declan Donnellan and produced by the Piccolo Teatro di Milano that was staged at the Aleksandrinskij Theatre in St. Petersburg thanks to the partnership between the Ministry of Cultural Heritage and Activities (MIBAC) and the Italian Cultural Institute. The cast of young actors, the refined stage settings and Donnellan’s masterly staging have confirmed the role of the Piccolo Teatro di Milano as the privileged ambassador of our culture abroad.
The two repeat performances were part of the programme of the Theatre Olympics in Russia – an international event that saw the participation of Europe’s most important theatre companies – and were both sold-out. The close cooperation between the MIBAC and the Italian Cultural Institute in St. Petersburg, also thanks to the Fund to promote the Italian language and culture abroad, continues to achieve excellent results in Russia, as also revealed by the success of the series of events organised as part of the Culture Forum, in which Italy was guest Country, and of the events organised throughout 2019, which made an important contribution to further develop cultural relations between Italy and Russia.
